Below I'm going to share with you a personal story about a purchase I made my first year, I hope it helps you realize why I think things happen to people for a reason:

My First PREMIUM Domain Purchase When I first began investing in domains I was distracted by the fact so many others were telling me I got into the business far to late to become successful. I missed the "Golden Opportunity" of the mid 1990's when premium domains could be purchased for just a few hundred dollars. Those domains that were once available for just a few hundred dollars would now cost me millions to purchase. Luckily, I am a big believer that those who are focused on something will FIND a way to make things work even if they can't see how it's possible. Staying focused on my plan of developing one income stream after I decided that the best way for me to have an ADVANTAGE over all other domain investor's who did get into the business earlier. For me this advantage was hard work and a lot of long exhausting days scanning through thousands of domain names, making private offers, and trying to find out as much information as possible about the business. Ultimately I began focusing on growing one income stream at a time, automating it, and re-investing my profits into new purchases. Within just a few months (and several 20 hours work days) I had built a solid portfolio of domains that were generating enough income for me to focus completely on my domain business and put my previous projects on the side. I new that for me to actually have any long term success in the business I would have to find a way to purchase PREMIUM domains at a great discount. One day I was browsing through the various domain marketplaces and in the "featured domains" section of one of the sites I found a great generic domain (recognized by billions of people) that was listed for sale. Unfortunately at the time the domain was listed for tens of thousands more than I could actually afford. Being the persistent person that I am I decided to check out the whois records for the domain and send a private offer to the domain owner as if I never knew the domain was even listed for sale. With my initial email to the owner I made a cash offer of $7500 usd (keep in mind this was tens of thousands less than the listed price). The next day checking my email I noticed the owner of the domain (from Japan) had sent me a reply. To keep things short his initial response was that my offer was too low and he "thought" the domain was worth the price he had it listed. Several months later, after checking the listing on the marketplace I noticed the name was still available for sale so I decided to up my offer to $10,000. One day later I received a response stating that it was a lot lower than was expected but that he would SELL me the domain as long as I could pay within 24 hours! Extremely excited and enthusiastic I knew that this was my chance to acquire my first EXTREMELY VALUABLE domain at a HUGE discount over its true value. Although excited the truth was I actually didn't have the cash on hand to make the purchase. For some reason however I knew that I was going to come up with the money, whether I had to borrow it from a family member or sell some of my profitable domains to raise the cash quickly. To my amazement that same afternoon I needed to call one of my credit card accounts to remove a block that had been placed on my card for irregular activity. At the end of the call (without even thinking about this as an option) the account representative asked me if I would like my credit limit raised. When he he told me how much he could raise my limit to ( which was the EXACT AMOUNT I was purchasing the domain for) I calmly agreed to the raise. Inside however I was jumping for joy because I knew that this was the method I was going to use to pay for the domain. The only problem was the deal was supposed to be a cash deal paid through Escrow.com . Visiting the site I discovered there were a few ways to pay for transactions, the first, through a cash transfer from a bank account and the second ( for transactions under $5000) credit cards. Thinking of how I could make this work I wrote to the domain owner asking if I could pay for the domain in two separate amounts (both $5000) and if possible to include another domain (which I didn't really care if I received) and set the two domain amounts at $5000 a piece (so I could use my credit card to fund the account). Without a problem the owner of the domain agreed to the deal and within a day I had the account funded in full and the PREMIUM domain transferred to me. This very domain has been able to pay itself off in full in less than a years time and has recently been appraised at $600,000USD. The moral of the story above is two-fold. First of all its not TOO LATE to enter into this business even if people around you tell you it is. Secondly, even if you don't have a lot of cash or credit to get started that shouldn't bother you. The most important thing you need to realize is that if you put in the time and effort and strive to be successful you will find the way to make it happen.
